dandc : Pallet Compost Bin

Check out local builders merchants for unwanted pallets that 2400x1200 plasterboard is delivered on. One pallet makes three sections and idealy four sections make one bin so three pallets make two bins plus some spare wood in case of splits. This guide is for one pallet, you could stop at three sections if you only want a small bin.

The pallet

Careful use of a crowbar should yield:

The harvest

Cut each of the 2400 lengths in to 3 pieces approximately 800 long.
Cut 12 pieces 210 long from the 80x40s.

The parts

Take one of each 120x20x800 and 90x20x800 lengths and lay them with the wider one at the top and then nail one of the 80x40s flush with one end and offset approx. 25mm from the top like so:

Repeat until you run out of parts and have 12 sides like this:

Four sides can then be assembled to make each section.

Each section will then stack neatly into the previous, the short legs locate and keep the sections in place.
